Extension stages
Parallel to the planning of stage 1 the Light Rail Train Secretariat and the municipalities in the Light Rail Transit cooperation are working on the design of the extension stages of the LRT system in eastern Jutland. The work includes assessments of the passenger basis, service basis, tracks as well as construction and operating economics.
The vision for the extension stages is to establish an efficient public transport system, ensuring direct connections to the largest destinations for both internal traffic in Aarhus and the external commuter traffic to and from the surrounding municipalities in order to strengthen the infrastructure and urban development in eastern Jutland.
To accomplish the vision the LRT service within and outside the Municipality of Aarhus will be extended, and a network of bus lines, supporting and complementing the LRT system will be established. 11 new stages have been pointed out already, of which the stages to Brabrand, Hasselager, Vejlby, Nordhavnen and Trige will be situated within the Municipality of Aarhus, while the stages to Skanderborg, Galten, Silkeborg, Hinnerup, Hadsten and Randers will be situated in the surrounding municipalities.

At present the work concentrates on prioritizing which stage to choose as stage 2. In this connection a number of reports and memos were written in 2009. They can be seen at » Materiale (in Danish).
