Stage one will be built up around a mainline Hornslet/Lystrup - Århus H - Tranbjerg/Odder, which will be formed by a connection of the existing local railways, but running through Lisbjerg and Skejby.
In consideration of the speed and travel time a few of the present stops on Randersvej will not be served by the light rail transit system. A principle like this also applies in other European cities where LRT systems have been designed recently, e.g. in Kassel and Strasbourg.
The figure below illustrates an outline design of the tracks and stops for the route.

The bus service will be adjusted to the LRT system. Consequently, there will be a need for attractive transfer options between the LRT and the busses at central places along the route network. The principle for the stops can be summarized as:
- Stops along the LRT route network will be placed at an average distance of 500-800m.
- Stops will be added according to main destinations along the network.
- Main transfer stops will be established, connecting the LRT system and delivery to/from city busses, local and regional bus lines.
A few stops will function as transfer sites where e.g. primary bus lines cross LRT stops. Some of the most important transfer stops along the new route will be located at Banegårdspladsen/Park Allé, at Nehrus Allé near Ringvejen and Lisbjerg South, where park and ride facilities will be established.
