Public comment phases
As a citizen you are invited to participate in the public comment phases encompassed in the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) and the planning procedure. The first hearing took place in connection with the preliminary Environmental Impact Assessments. The second hearing took place in the period from 3 February to 7 April 2010, when the EIA review and the proposal for the local authority supplement were prepared.
To achieve a usable debate it is important that you as a citizen know what is up for discussion and why. Consequently, it should be emphasized that it is the overall questions which are subject to discussion in connection with the EIA procedure.
The first public comment period
The procedure in connection with the elaboration of the local authority plan supplement and the EIA report was initiated in February 2008, where the first public hearing period took place (from 20 February to 2 April). In this connection a debate folder on the light rail transit project was published. The purpose of the folder was to provide an insight into the project and on this background provide citizens, interest groups and other authorities with an opportunity to express their views on the project and come up with ideas and proposals for the planning work and the content of the EIA . The folder has also served as an introduction to the elaboration of a proposal for the local authority supplement and an EIA for the first stage of the LRT.
In connection with the first public phase 50 written comments from public authorities, various associations and private citizens were received. All these comments were read and collected in a hearing note, which served as a basis for the decision taken by the City Council of Aarhus on 3 December 2008 regarding determination of alternatives and environmental questions to be included in the future planning work, and be clarified in the EIA.
The main subjects included in the comments are:
- Connection to the LRT without comments
- The crossing of national roads
- Extent of service
- Changes in bus and car traffic
- Layout of routes and stops
- Covered stations including accessibility
- Covered LRT routes
- Electrification
- Safety and signal adjustment
- Goods trains service
- Subway, elevated railway or RUF (Rapid Urban Flexible)
- Colour selection
The second public comment period
The second public comment period took place from 3 February to 7 April 2010. In this period the citizens had the opportunity to comment on and submit the proposal for the local authority plan supplement for LRT Stage 1 and the appurtenant EIA report.

The comments received from the second public stage is now treated in the Municipality of Aarhus. It is expected that the Aarhus City Council adopts the proposal for the local authority plan supplement for LRT Stage 1 and the appurtenant EIA report after the summer 2010.
