Ticket machines on Aarhus city buses
The City of Aarhus has decided to remove the ticket machines on Aarhus city buses (the yellow buses) at the end of 2023. This is because the ticket machines are worn and expensive to maintain, and because cash ticket sales have decreased considerably in recent years. Read why here
This means that from 1 November 2023 you will no longer be able to buy a ticket with cash on the bus, and that you will therefore have to buy your ticket in some other way.
We recommend the following ticket options:
You always have a ticket at hand, and automatically enjoy any discount you have earned. You can use your Rejsekort travel card when travelling by bus, Letbanen, train, local railway and the Copenhagen Metro all over Denmark.
If you have a payment card, the simplest option is a continuous payment agreement. Then you can be sure that there is always money on your Rejsekort when you need it.
If you are 67+ years old, have taken early retirement or receive a senior pension, you can purchase a Pensionistkort (senior card) for Midttrafik’s buses and Letbanen in the City of Aarhus. The card cannot be used on Arriva or DSB trains.
The card can be purchased at the Midttrafik webshop or at Midttrafik Customer Service at Aarhus bus station. At Midttrafik Customer Service, you can pay for the card with cash.
In the Midttrafik app, you can buy, for example, single trip tickets and multi-trip tickets.

You can buy and print your ticket from home. You can also show the ticket in PDF format directly on your mobile phone.

Pensioners are entitled to a 25% discount when they purchase a Rejsekort travel card/multi-trip ticket.
Special assistance for non-digital customers
Midttrafik’s Mobile Customer Service visits selected locations in the City of Aarhus where you can have a Rejsekort travel card or Pensionistkort (senior card) issued on the day.

If you need to have a Rejsekort travel card issued on the day, you must remember to bring 2 types of ID, one with a photo on it.
