Other buses

Single trip tickets can be bought from the driver when boarding.

It will be a big help if you have even money. The driver can usually give back on notes. If the driver has exceptionally run out of change, you will be asked to buy tickets in another way - e.g. Rejsekort or Midttrafik App. It is not permitted to travel without a ticket.

Single trip tickets can also be purchased in the Midttrafik app, RejseBillet or in Midttrafik webshop

In addition, you can also use your Rejsekort. The driver can help check in a group.

Letbanen

You can purchase single trip tickets using the Rejsekort ticket machine (the large ticket machines) located on Letbanen platforms*. It is only possible to pay by credit/debit card – NOT with cash. The machines accept the following payment cards: Dankort/Visa Dankort, Visa/Visa Electron, MasterCard, Maestro and JCB.

Single trip tickets can also be purchased in the Midttrafik app, RejseBillet and in Midttrafik webshop

It is NOT possible to purchase tickets on board the Letbanen trains. Therefore, it is important that you have a valid ticket when you board Letbanen, otherwise you risk having to pay an inspection fee.

*At Stockholmsgade, there is only a Rejsekort ticket machine on the platform for trains heading into Aarhus.

However, you can use transit tickets purchased using the Midttrafik app, RejseBillet and Rejsekort in the trains provided they are valid for the zones in question.

Ticket checks

Aarhus city buses and Letbanen

Ticket checks on Aarhus city buses, on Letbanen and on routes 100 and 200 are carried out by G4S. All the inspectors carry a special ID card.

It is your responsibility to have purchased the correct ticket. If you are unable to present a valid ticket or card during a ticket check, the inspector will register that you do not have a correct ticket. You will receive a receipt by text message. The text message can be used as a valid ticket until the last stop on the route. It is not permitted to transfer to another route. If you do not provide your mobile phone number, you will not receive a receipt. You are required to provide your name and address and provide valid ID. Ticket checks can take place on board the bus or Letbanen while they are being driven, and outside the bus or Letbanen when getting off.

Midttrafik’s administration processes the information which the inspector has provided them with as quickly as possible. If we consider that there are grounds for issuing a penalty fare, you will be issued with one. A penalty fare for adults (16 years of age and above) is DKK 1,000, for children (up to and including 15 years of age) is DKK 500, for dogs is DKK 500 and for bicycles is DKK 100. It is possible to submit a complaint to Midttrafik about the penalty fare before the payment deadline.

Other buses and trains

On other buses and trains, you will be issued with an inspection fee if you are unable to produce a valid ticket or valid card. The inspection fee for failing to have a valid ticket is DKK 1.000 for adults (aged 16 years and older), DKK 500 for children (aged 15 years and below), DKK 500 for dogs and DKK 100 for bicycles. You can submit a complaint to Midttrafik regarding the inspection fee before the inspection fee is due for payment.

You are required to provide your name and address and provide valid ID.

The inspection fee may be collected by distraint (security in your property) or enforcement by SKAT, the Danish tax authorities, through the withholding of wages.

Any complaints should be sent to Midttrafik. However, if you receive an inspection fee on board a train, you must complain to DSB or Arriva.

Lost transit tickets, Pensionistkort (senior cards) or Youth cards

If you have a valid transit ticket (app/rejsekort), Pensionistkort (senior card) (paperboard) or Youth card (app) but have forgotten to take it with you or it cannot be displayed in the Midttrafik app or RejseBillet app, and you are therefore unable to produce it when the tickets are being checked, the inspection fee can be reduced to a handling charge of DKK 125. You are required to contact Midttrafik Customer Service in person at Fredensgade 45, 8000 Aarhus C, and produce the valid card/app as well as the inspection fee you have received before the payment deadline for the inspection fee. The card must have been purchased before the inspection fee was issued.

You cannot be let off an inspection fee by subsequently producing a single trip ticket.
